Today Neosho said goodbye to Mary Ranz. Mary is starting a new chapter in her life, retirement. It is hard to say goodbye to such a delightful lady as she is hardworking and genuine in her care for her residents. Mary started her career at Medicalodge as a receptionist and finished in the activities department, working in hospitality along the way. We are going to miss her smile and gentle nature but we wish her all the very best that retirement has to offer! Thank you Mary! ...

We love crafts in Neosho! Through the month of September everybody worked really hard on the Fall craft which was scarecrow fences. The quirky, happy faces on the scarecrows let us know that Fall is here! ...

Today would have been a good day for Confucious in Neosho. If his words of wisdom were "Eat more Chocolate!" then we followed his advice to the "T". Today we ate pretzels and fortune cookies dipped in chocolate. Finding the fortune in the cookie is always fun and you never know, the fortune might bring good luck. After all, there's no telling what Confucius might say about this day! #confuciousday2020 ...

Neosho loves fall breezes, sunny days and football. What do you do when you have a field goal and the football you kick is inside? Why not improvise and execute a throw? It's really not that easy to throw the football up between the goal posts but two of these ladies made it look easy peasy. What an arm?!? ...

Throughout the month of September Neosho set up props and a photobooth display as part of the Faith, Fall and Football Theme. Everyone was encouraged to "Show Me Your Selfie" as they walked past. Everyone had their own take on how their selfies should look and showed their creativity. The photobooth was tons of fun for both staff and residents and so we had to share the selfies with everyone. ...

Saturday was Johnny Appleseed Day and residents at Neosho joined in some fun activities surrounding the day.
Did you know that Orchards in the early 1800s were used for legal purposes to establish land claims along the frontier? Upon his death John Chapman "Johnny Appleseed" owned 1200 acres so he did not randomly toss seeds across the Midwest as folklore would have us believe. Also his apples were not edible apples, they were mostly used to make hard cider which was an accepted and vastly popular drink amongst the pioneers due to the lack of refrigeration. So on this glorious day Neosho remembered Johnny Appleseed with stories of his life and times as they participated in some beautiful apple stamping. The afternoon was spent chowing down on Apple Pie Cups. Just so everyone knows, we really do not need an excuse to eat Apple Pie!

Thank you to the Northeast Viking Football team for their donation of DVD players for the residents at Medicalodges Girard. At a time when our residents are spending a lot of time social distancing this will certainly be appreciated!

It's Native American Day. Neosho paid respect to the Native Americans by creating some beautiful Headdresses and learning a little about the Native American culture. Why a headdress? Who wore them? Who compiles the local tribes? How long was the Trail of Tears and how many crossed? These and more questions were answered as we had a little colorful fun. Since there is no word for Goodbye in Cherokee we will bid you Osiyo Donadaghvi! ...

Osiyo. I know that word. Your Ggggrandmother named Anjeline O'conell was on the trail of tears but all her relatives died of hunger and disease and worn out so she ran away from the soldiers in Tennessee. She Married a white man named Jonas Hix down there and then later they moved to McDonald County,Mo. They have a stone in the Anderson Cemetery.

Who was there tslking to the people. I know they were Cherokee.
